Basilica of Saint Mary of the Pine

Walk to stand in front of the main facade of the church located in the square.
This charming space, known as Pine square, owes its name to the majestic pine tree that traditionally stands in the center of the square.
The square is dominated by the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Pine, an impressive Gothic church dating from the 14th century. Its sober and elegant facade contrasts with the beauty of its huge rose window, one of the largest in Europe, which fills the interior with color and light.
Since we started the tour, we have seen the cathedral, the king’s palace with its royal chapel and the basilica of Saint Mary of the Pine. All these monumental buildings began to be built at the same time, 13th and 14th centuries, which shows the wealth of the city at that time of splendor, thanks to the trade in the Mediterranean.
Around the square, you will find a mix of historic buildings with arcades and charming craft stores, art galleries, and cafes that offer perfect views to enjoy a moment of relaxation. During the weekends, painters come to exhibit their work in the square, making it an ideal place to explore and take home a unique souvenir of Barcelona.
If you decide to enter the basilica and climb the bell tower, you will be able to see breathtaking views of the old town of Barcelona. It is a perfect place to take a good picture.
