After climbing the small slope you will reach the large door of a building. If the door is open, enter until you reach the remains of the Roman Columns of Barcelona, one of the most impressive vestiges of Roman Barcelona, which transport us directly to the time of Barcino.
They are the only ones still standing of what was a majestic Roman temple dedicated to Augustus, the emperor who consolidated the Roman Empire in the first century BC.
The Temple of Augustus was one of the most important religious buildings of ancient Barcino. Its construction began in 10 BC and was located in the forum of the city, on a hill.
A place of great political and religious importance. This temple was surrounded by a large courtyard with a series of Corinthian columns, but today only four of these columns remain.
The columns that can be admired today have an impressive height, about 7 meters, and are made of stone from the region, specially adapted to the Roman architectural style, with its Corinthian design, reflecting the splendor of Roman art and engineering.
These columns not only have historical and architectural value, but also symbolic, as they represent the power, organization and expansion of the Roman Empire, as well as the religious importance of the city at that time.
