Royal Square

Royal Square

Royal Square was designed in 1848, although the original project dates back to a century earlier. Its symmetrical design, with elegant arcades surrounded by four-story buildings with colonnaded galleries, creates a unique space that invites relaxation and enjoyment.

The center of the square is adorned with a central cast iron fountain, which has become a popular meeting point for locals and visitors alike.

You may have noticed that there are two rather odd lampposts on either side of the fountain. These wrought iron lampposts were designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1878, when he was very young. They are one of the few examples of Gaudí’s work in the city’s public space and add a unique touch to the square.

Plaza Real is also famous for its lively atmosphere, especially at night, when its terraces and restaurants come alive. Here you will find a wide variety of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and flamenco shows, offering everything from traditional Catalan tapas to international cuisine, making it an ideal place to enjoy gastronomy or a drink in its lively atmosphere.

And we have come to the end. I hope you enjoyed your visit while strolling through the streets of the city and I encourage you to sit on one of the terraces to taste some of the local specialties and enjoy the atmosphere of the square.
